NOTICE UNDER LOCAL GOVERNMENT ACT, 1972 (Section 87(2))
VACANCY FOR A COUNCILLOR
PUBLIC NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN
that a casual vacancy has occurred in the office of Councillor for the West Ward of the Town of Bridgnorth following the death on Thursday 14th May 2015 of Councillor Norman Cottrell.
Rule 5(2) of The Local Elections (Parishes and Communities) (England and Wales) Rules, 2006 now applies.
The rule allows TEN ELECTORS for the parish [ward] in which the casual vacancy has arisen to request the Returning Officer to hold an election to fill the vacancy.* That request must be made within FOURTEEN DAYS, calculated in accordance with the rules,** of the date of this notice. The fourteen-day period ends on 24th June 2015.
What if a request to hold an election is not received during the permitted time?
Rule 5(5) of the above Rules will apply. The Parish Council must, as soon as practicable after the expiry of the fourteen-day period, co-opt a person to fill the vacancy.

* There is no form of words for this request, which might simply be a letter headed with such words as “We the undersigned being electors for the [Ward of] … Parish, call for an election to fill the vacancy arising from the [death][resignation] of …”. A template entitled “Request for an Election” is available to download from Shropshire Council’s website – www.shropshire.gov.uk - under “Current Council Vacancies”. It is helpful if the ten signatures are accompanied by printed names and addresses.
** In calculating the notice period, day one is the day following the date of this notice; a Saturday, Sunday, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Good Friday or a Bank Holiday or day appointed for public thanksgiving or mourning shall be disregarded, and the period closes at midnight on the fourteenth day after the date of this notice. Rule 5(2) of The Local Elections (Parishes and Communities) (England and Wales) Rules, 2006 now applies.

Bridgnorth Town Council in partnership with Shropshire Council present Bridgnorth Skatepark Jam – the official opening of the Skatepark on Crown Meadow on Saturday 20th June from 11am.
There will be competitions throughout the afternoon from 2pm so grab your skateboard, scooter or skates and join the fun!

The Notice of Election has now been received from Shropshire Council for Morfe Ward. Please note, only residents of Morfe Ward will be eligible to vote in this election.
Bridgnorth Town Council is unable to receive any applications and these should be sent directly to Shropshire Council.

The Town Council is taking part in the annual occasion of ‘Fly a Flag for the Commonwealth'.
The ceremony is being held in Castle Grounds from 9.45am on Monday 9 March 2015. The proceedings will commence with a prayer before the Town Mayor reads messages from Her Majesty The Queen, His Excellency Kamalesh Sharma, Secretary General of the Commonwealth and the Commonwealth Affirmation before the flag is raised at 10.00am, by a young person who attends one of our local schools.

The Mayor, Councillor Edward Marshall is holding a Civic Dinner on Saturday 28 February 2015 at the Punchbowl Inn, Bridgnorth, 7pm for 7.30pm (Black Tie).
Tickets are priced at £25.00 and are available from the Town Council offices. Tables are also available upon request.

Application forms are now available for grants for 2015/16 and can be collected from the Town Council offices. Alternatively, they can be requested on 01746 762231 and sent via post.
Applications will be considered for financial assistance towards a specific project or activity from voluntary organisations, community groups and individuals, which are non-commercial and whose membership and field of activity is centered in the Town and benefits the community.
Forms must be returned to the Town Council offices, College House, Bridgnorth, WV16 4EJ by noon on Friday 27th March 2015.

The Town Council closes at 12 noon today (24th December) and reopens at 9am on the 2nd January. However the open spaces and play areas will be checked on the 29th, 30th and 31st December. The undertakers will be rung by the Town Clerk on the same days for January interments, the Town Clerk will be on call for the Police and Shropshire Council and there will be an out of hours number for the Town Clerk FOR EMERGENCIES ONLY on the Town Council number. Castle Grounds will be closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Years Day. May we take this opportunity to wish everyone a Happy Christmas and Best Wishes for 2015.
