Bridgnorth is honoured to have been nominated to represent the Heart of England Town Section in the 2014 Britain in Bloom finals for which we are being judged on Friday 1st August. We have entered the Heart of England In Bloom - town section competition and will be judged for that class on Tuesday 22nd July.
People have the perception that In Bloom is all about flowers, and whilst Bridgnorth is very proud of the magnificent display of flowers annually the competition is far more than that. The whole essence of the competition is about community - involvement, enhancement, sustainability, recycling and environment but this is across the whole community.
The Council has continued to make improvements to Castle Grounds - a new woodland walk, Navy and RAF beds (Army planned for 2015), opening up of the Castle Walk end of the grounds (with help from Sainsburys), larger vegetable gardens (with help from Bridgnorth WI), benches dipped and re-stained and poppy planting.
Lavington Gardens is being planted out by the guides.
The Cemetery will shortly see the opening of the Memorial Garden and also has a new water feature and poppies planted.
Bandon Island Roundabout - plans to replant.
Quayside - upgrade and refurbishment planned.
Community Events - A whole host of events throughout the year take place in the town. www.bridgnorthtownevents.org
Town Hall - quotes accepted to repair the Bell Tower but scaffolding will be erected shortly for refurbishment of the windows and for painting of the building.
CCTV - A full report on the current CCTV system has been commissioned and upgrades will be taken. A grant from the West Mercia Police and Crime Commissioner towards this work has been secured.

Over 200 people joined the Bridgnorth Sinfonia, Bridgnorth Male Voice Choir and Bridgnorth Yukelele Band in St. Mary's Church. The rain in the late afternoon left us inside St. Mary's Church for a great evening of music, singing, dancing, picnicing and flag waving! Four encores of Land of Hope and Glory completed what is now this annual event in the Bridgnorth calendar. The MC for the evening was Councillor Christian Lea, Chairman of the Community Events Working Party who was joined by the Town Mayor, Councillor Edward Marshall to open the event.
