Heart of England In Bloom

Mayor’s Charity Christmas Concert - webIMG_0607IMG_0625IMG_4812

The entry to the Heart of England in Bloom is a real community entry and more volunteers have come forward to help us be proud of our town. It’s not all about floral provision in the town throughout the year but a true sense of community and belonging  is generated throughout the town. This is achieved by community events and involvement, a belief in environmental awareness through recycling and climate change, neighbourhood enhancement and a will to improve the town which we love and live and work.

Through community involvement Vision Bridgnorth and Community Events, some celebrating national landmarks in time, we endeavour to make people aware of the history and culture of Bridgnorth and make it a better place to live with a sustainable future for the young of our town.  Our entry allows the opportunity for all sectors of the community to be part of the future of our town and once again encourage the community to work together.

The amount of community interest in the town has continued to grow and a cohesive outlook is emerging to reach out to community organisations and interested individuals. This promotes community involvement and partnership with local organisations meaning that people are working together to improve the environment of the town in which we are so proud.

The Town Council is proud of the floral impact around the town and in the cemetery. The bridge and low town are regularly commented upon by visitors and residents alike as a great welcoming entrance feature. High town has its floral merits too adding to the tradition of the old buildings in this market town.

Bridgnorth Cemetery is set into the hillside in the Low Town of Bridgnorth. This tranquil setting has seen many improvements over the years but the Town Council staff have been working very hard with members of the Shropshire Wildlife Group to enhance the quality of life both for the visitors to the cemetery and also the wildlife and flora and fauna in this location.

Improvements to meet the needs of the users of the cemetery have continued with the recent addition of a memorial garden, where under the guidance of a Funeral Director, ashes can be scattered.

Our local In Bloom Group has entered the regional competition for many years. However, the momentum and enthusiasm has grown within the group in the past year once more reaching community organisations and interested individuals. This promotes community involvement and partnership working. This means that all parties are working to improve the environment of the town in which so many of the group live, work and are all so proud of.

We look forward to welcoming the Heart of England In Bloom judges on Tuesday 14th July 2015.

At long last the work to repair the Quayside in Bridgnorth has got the go-ahead. As this text is written the Environment Agency has asked for additional information from the specialist contractor following the awarding of the contract last year, the wait during the fishing spawning season and the reduction in the level of the river. The work will be carried out over the summer.
